How does Mic Buddy work?
Pick what to practice, like an interview answer, a toast or today’s prompt, and talk out loud. When you stop, Mic Buddy scores your take and shows your pace, filler words, pauses and clarity, with one thing that went well and one thing to try next time.
Which filler words does it catch?
In English it catches um, uh, like, you know, I mean, so, well, actually, basically and a few more. It also marks soft words like just, maybe and I think, and every pause of 1.5 seconds or more, with its length.
How much does Mic Buddy cost?
Mic Buddy is free to download. Using it takes a subscription: a yearly, monthly or weekly plan. You see the price in the app before you pay, and you can cancel a subscription any time in Settings.
Are my recordings private?
Yes. Mic Buddy turns your speech into text and scores it right on your iPhone, so your takes are not sent anywhere to be analyzed. The mock interview runs on your iPhone too, and there are no ads.
Can I practice for a job interview?
Yes. The mock interview asks you questions for a job interview, small talk, a pitch or a school interview. You answer out loud and every answer gets a score. On iPhones with Apple Intelligence, Mic follows up on what you said; on other iPhones it asks common questions. There is also a 5-day Ace your interview program.
What happens the first time I open it?
Mic Buddy sets up your private coach: it downloads its speech models to your iPhone once, in the background, so every take can be scored on the device. If you record before that is done, your take is scored as soon as it is ready.
Which languages does it support?
Mic Buddy works in 13 languages: English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Arabic, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Turkish and Chinese, with the filler words of each one.
Which devices does Mic Buddy work on?
iPhone and iPad with iOS 26.5 or later. An Android version is coming to Google Play.
