Where your recordings go also differs. Mic Buddy analyzes every take on your iPhone. Yoodli's FAQ says your data is stored on secure Google servers. Orai's privacy policy says recordings made in its app may be uploaded to its cloud servers. Big Interview's privacy policy says recordings are stored in your account and that third-party AI providers help generate feedback.
Poised, a desktop app that gave live feedback during video calls, says on its site that it is shutting down on October 8, 2026, so it is not included here.
Speech coach apps for iPhone
Mic Buddy, Orai, Speeko and Vocal Image all have iPhone apps on the App Store, and Big Interview added one in 2026. Yoodli does not have an App Store app: it runs in a web browser and on video calls.
If you mostly practice on your phone, in the minutes before a meeting or the night before a toast, an iPhone app matters more than a long feature list. Mic Buddy is built for exactly that: open it, talk, and see your numbers. See Mic Buddy vs Yoodli and Mic Buddy vs Orai for side-by-side details.
Apps for interview practice
- Mic Buddy: a mock interview for a job, school, a pitch or small talk, with friendly or tough questions. On iPhones with Apple Intelligence it asks follow-ups about what you said. There's also a 5-day interview program.
- Big Interview: a full course with video lessons, an interview simulator and feedback on recorded video answers. See Mic Buddy vs Big Interview.
- Yoodli: AI roleplays that include interviews, in the browser.
- Vocal Image: its App Store listing includes mock job interviews among its AI roleplays.
Google's Interview Warmup is gone: Google retired it in 2026 (see Mic Buddy vs Google Interview Warmup). For the most common question of all, read how to answer "Tell me about yourself".
Apps that count filler words
Mic Buddy, Yoodli, Orai, Speeko and Vocal Image all mention filler words in their feedback. The difference is in the detail. Mic Buddy counts your fillers after every take, shows which ones you used, marks them in red in your transcript, and its progress screen shows the fillers you use most, in 13 languages. If filler words are your main problem, also read the list of filler words and how to stop saying um.
Is there a free public speaking app?
Very few are free to practice with. Yoodli's Starter plan is free with up to 5 roleplays in total. Orai offers a 7-day free trial and then a subscription; Mic Buddy is a subscription app with no free tier.
You can still practice for free: record yourself with your phone's voice recorder, time yourself with a stopwatch, and measure your pace with the speaking rate test on this site. Free ways to practice public speaking lists more.
